Woman 'Quite Traumatized' by Cheetah Attack, Husband Is Angry

ABC News' Suzan Clarke and Alyssa Newcomb report:
The woman who was mauled by cheetahs at a South African game preserve said she was "quite traumatized" by the  incident.
The woman tried to play dead as the two supposedly tame animals bit and clawed her head, stomach and legs.
"I just remember … something biting my head and dragging me down," Violet D'Mello said in an interview with Caters News Agency.
The Scottish woman and her husband, Archibald, had gone to the Kragga Kamma Game Park, a private game reserve in Port Elizabeth, last weekend as part of her 60th birthday celebration.
The couple had the chance to pet two brother cheetahs, Mark and Monty. They took pictures with the cheetahs and were still in the petting area when one of the cats grabbed an 8-year-old girl by the leg.
Violet D'Mello tried to stop the attack, but when the girl ran to safety, both animals turned on her in a savage attack that lasted for more than three minutes before a guide pushed the animals back with a stick.
"We never for one moment thought they would attack," she said, while her husband added, "They said they were extremely tame and one could stroke them."

(ABC News)
Archibald D'Mello kept taking pictures, documenting the horrific scene as the animals bit and scratched his wife's head, legs and stomach. He kept taking pictures until he realized his wife was being bitten, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
One of the animals' claws cut the woman's face dangerously close to her right eye. If it had been any closer, she could have lost the eye, he said.
" We're very angry about what happened because we were told the situation was safe and it obviously wasn't," he added. "The park said they didn't know what had caused the cheetahs to attack but they shouldn't let tourists in unless they're sure it is safe."
His wife took a less forceful position against the facility, saying of the animals, "It was, I think, a playful attack because though they are grown-ups, they think like children."
"I was just sort of quite traumatized and I still am but you have to move on and think positive, you know, but I am on the mend," Violet D'Mello said.
Park manager Mike Cantor told the Port Elizabeth Herald newspaper that the park had never had any problems with the previously beloved cheetahs.
The petting facility was closed to the public while the park investigates the attack.

Supermodel Kate Upton To Be In 2012 Topps Baseball Card Set

Once upon a time, collecting baseball cards was a staple of American culture, but the era of technology has forced the industry to find creative ways to keep itself afloat.

About one month ago, Topps introduced an iPhone app, which allows users to virtually collect and trade cards. If that was tough for card-collecting conservatives to digest, they may have an even more difficult time hearing about Topps' next move:

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Kate Upton is about to get her own baseball card.

That's right. According to USA Today, when the 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter World Champions Set hits drug store counters, batting cage shops and well, iPhone apps, on July 11, collectors will find Upton's name on the same checklists as Albert Pujols, Justin Verlander and the rest of baseball's stars.

The set is modeled after the original cards provided by the Allen & Ginter tobacco manufacturing firm in the late 1800s. The cards featured paintings of the players and were placed in cigarette packs. The set is known for featuring non-athletes, along with baseball players.

Upton's portrait displays her in a red dress she wore at the SI Swimsuit Issue launch party. According to ESPN, a limited number of cards signed by the model will be packaged in the set.

Upton headlines a class of non-baseball players that includes Michael Phelps, Ara Parseghian, Erin Andrews, Greg Gumbel, Ewa Matay, Colin Montgomerie, Kirk Herbstreit, Swin Cash, Michael Buffer, Curly Neal, Meadowlark Lemon and Arnold Palmer.

UNKNOWN FRIENDSHIP

first--sarcasm fills the air
striking remarks then follows.
small grins, dubious eyebrows,
oh--let the arguments begin!
time passes by...
only acquiring the habit we have begun.
though the longer the mockery is,
the harder it is revealing each other's identity.
...ironically--my only goal is to uncover the real "you."
unfortunately, there's just too many sarcasm,
and barely little of the real us...
I asked if we could change it,
you said "yes--we can."
deciding that nature will take its place
we set aside our worries and proceed with life.
while in our minds,
there's still a boundary keeping us apart.
will our friendship ever be at ease?
...in my mind
I hope
I pray.

Police say body of Calif. man's girlfriend located

ORANGE, Calif. (AP) — Police said Saturday they located the body of the girlfriend of a Southern California man who led officers on a chase that shut down a busy freeway for an hour.
Shazer Fernando Limas, 31, was arrested early Friday following the chase on Interstate 5. He is suspected of killing his girlfriend, Arlet Hernandez Contreras, 31, and the couple's two young boys.
Detectives found evidence in his apartment indicating that the victims were killed about three weeks ago and the bodies were dumped elsewhere.
Detectives located her body late Friday when they contacted the Los Angeles Coroner's office to see if the facility had any unidentified female bodies. They learned that county workers found one that appeared to have stab wounds on April 25 in La Puente, police Sgt. Dan Adams said.
The couple's 4-month-old and 2-year-old sons remain missing, Adams said.
Fernando Limas came to police's attention after he moved out of the apartment he shared with Contreras and someone sent to clean the carpets found them covered in blood.
Fernando Limas was spotted in the Costa Mesa area late Thursday afternoon. When police tried to stop him, he fled on what became a freeway chase that ended near the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near San Onofre. A spike strip was used to flatten the tires on his Nissan 350Z.
Adams said evidence from the apartment indicated the victims were killed after an altercation.
Investigators searched surrounding counties and used cadaver-sniffing dogs to search the nearby Brea dump in case the bodies were placed in a trash container at the apartment complex. However, they didn't find any bodies.

Tornado kills teenager in Japan

A tornado ripped through eastern Japan on Sunday, killing a teenager, destroying dozens of homes and cutting power to around 20,000 households.
"A 14-year-old male died" as a result of the tornado, said a spokesman at the disaster headquarters of Tsukuba city in Ibaraki prefecture, roughly 60 kilometres (37 miles) northeast of Tokyo.
The exact cause of the death was not immediately clear, but he was among 15 people whom rescue workers rushed to hospitals immediately after the twister, the city government said.
It added that 21 other people also sought medical care for tornado-related injuries in the city, and said it had asked Self Defense Force troops to help with rescue and relief operations.
"The figure is only a temporary tally. We believe the number (for injuries) could rise," the spokesman said.
The Tsukuba fire and emergency bureau said 30 to 50 houses were destroyed by the tornado, with many more damaged.
Moka city in neighbouring Tochigi prefecture reported one injury and damage to 132 buildings after it was hit by a separate apparent tornado.
A number of minor injuries were also reported in Tochigi, while a swathe of eastern Japan was battered by strong winds, hail, lightning and heavy rain.
In total, tornadoes damaged roughly 500 houses and buildings in the Kanto region, including Ibaraki and Tochigi, said the online editions of national broadcaster NHK and the mass-circulation Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.
Television footage from Tsukuba showed houses swept from their foundations, overturned cars in muddy debris and fallen concrete power poles.
Aerial images showed possibly hundreds of houses and apartments with shattered glass windows, many of them with their roofs blown away.
"You could see the roaring column of wind rushing with sparks from live power lines inside it," a local man told national broadcaster NHK.
"Winds blew into my house. It took only a moment," a woman told NHK while cleaning up her home.
Japan's weather agency issued warnings for a wide region in the east of the country, urging people to seek shelter in case of sudden winds and thunder.
The severe winds caused a power outage for nearly 20,000 households in the region, said a spokeswoman for Tokyo Electric Power.
"The tornado and thunder happening around 12:46 pm (0346 GMT) are believed to be the cause of the outage for 19,300 clients in Tsukuba and its surrounding areas," she said.

Indonesian fuel hike protests turn violent on March 27, 2012

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) – Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse thousands of rock-throwing Indonesians protesting plans to push up fuel prices by more than 30 percent. Several people were injured and rushed to hospitals. Rallies were held under tight security in big cities all over the country Tuesday as parliament debated the hike. Some lawmakers said the government had no choice but to cut budget-busting fuel subsidies, which have for years enabled motorists to fill up for roughly $2 per gallon. Others argued raising prices could more than double inflation to 7 percent. With global oil prices surging, most Indonesians realize there’s little choice. But that hasn’t stopped thousands in a nation of 240 million, many of whom live in abject poverty, from taking to the streets every day for the last week.
If a price increase is approved, it will go into effect Sunday.
